I had a great vacation. I ended up extending it by a couple of days (returning yesterday rather than Saturday), and I wish it could have gone on longer. I'm sure to be blathering about it for the next six months. I'm pretty seriously jet-lagged now (my dumb body seems to think it's five AM), so I'll just note this for now:

On my return transatlantic flight the television screens had, in between the movies and news shows and commercials, information on the flight (altitude, speed, outside temperature, time remaining, maps of the flight path, and other things). When we were close to landing, they had a map with the whole of North America on it. Here are the cities and landmarks that were labelled on the map: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Havana and Lake Okeechobee. [Let's pause here so you can prepare yourself to smile stiffly when you hear the crummy and in-poor-taste joke that's coming. Ready?] It wasn't even a ValuJet flight.

Can we just end the insanity (or for you infommercial fans: STOP THE INSANITY!) right now? The dryer didn't eat your sock, you lost it.

I'm leaving today for a two week vacation to Tuscany (I'm a yuppie, yay!), so updates will be slightly less frequent.

You should read this piece by my friend Jeremy, in which we learn that Colgate College has no love for Ted Leo, and that Ted Leo can and will kick a little ass in the boxing ring!

Well, I don't really feel comfortable telling you what to do. You're a grownup, you can make your own decisions. If I were you, though, I'd read it. Actually, that's not necessarily true. If I were you, I'd have all your obligations and concerns and maybe I (as you) wouldn't have the time to read it. So, what I'm really saying is that if I were you and had the time and the inclination and some knowledge of English (maybe you (I) live in China for all I (you) know), I'd read it. Because, you know, it's funny. Also, I'm now confused and have a headache.
