I was reading this interview with Richard Russo where he talks about Warren Wilson college. I have a friend who works at Warren Wilson (incidentally, she mentioned to me that she'd seen Richard Russo in the cafeteria one day, so I don't think Richard Russo is lying about teaching there. Just FYI.)
I'd never heard of Warren Wilson's summer program, although my grandfather taught for years at Bread Loaf, the site of another famous writer's summer program. I'd never heard of the summer program, but I was curious about the college because it seemed like an interesting place. So, I'm sitting here looking at the Warren Wilson College website trying to figure out why it reminded me so much of the college I went to (Marlboro College). Answer below. (I also think Goodnight Moon is an awful lot like War and Peace, because they both have orange covers).

This is all to say: Don't tell anyone, but I think I'm responsible for the Marlboro College header look. When I was a freshman, my work/study job was as Assistant to the Dean of Students. The only part of my job which I ever did was to organize a monthly calendar of events. The header graphic on that looked exactly (EXACTLY!) like the one on the website, and this was before Marlboro had a website. I have proof of this somewhere. And I agree, it is ugly.
